More people spending more time on networking websites

Social media sites continue to captivate people's attention and time, according to a recent report. According to the Nielsen Company, global consumers spent more than 5.5 hours on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter in December 2009. That represents an 82 percent increase from the three hours they spent utilizing social networking internet sites the previous year. This continued a three-year trend of overall traffic growing, according to Neilson. People in the U.S. were right in line with the rest of the world to with total minutes on social media sites increasing 210 percent and the average time per person increasing 143 percent year-over-year in December 2009. And interestingly, social media is not mere kids play. According to Lost Remote, a new Forrester Research report shows adults using social networking sites in big numbers. With a third of online adults posting at least once a week to social sites such as Facebook and Twitter and nearly 60 percent of online adults maintaining a profile on a social networking site it is apparent that those spending time online are not just teens.
